When you cease to dream you cease to live – Malcolm Forbes

As Malcolm Forbes rightly said, you cease to live when you stop dreaming. Your dream is your signature. If Jeff Bezos has not dreamt ofbuilding the most customer centric company on this earth, Amazon would never be a reality. Entrepreneurship begins with a dream. A dream to build a great company, a great product or to serve people. It’s the passion and the urge to do more makes an Entrepreneur.

Your Dream is your Signature

Dreams, passion, persistence and the desire to do more are some of the traits of worlds most successful entrepreneurs.

“If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way” -Napoleon Hill

Thomas A. Edison is known for the invention of the light bulb. He made over 10,000 attempts before he discovered a carbonized bamboo filament that could last over 1200 hours. When asked about the frustration of all his failures he responded, I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward…”I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” And, one of his most recognized quote is, “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.” Edison is credited with 1,093 U.S. patents to his name !! So about the topic, its nothing new. I know. You have read about entrepreneurship, the passion, persistence, almost on a daily basis. Why I started with this title, is because of a film that inspired me a lot in recent times.

The Malayalam film titled, “How old are you” tells us the story of following a dream and making it a big one. One of the reason for the huge success of this film is becauseit’s the comeback film of Kerala’s one of the popular actress but more than that it gives a simple message “that age does not matter and you are never too old to chase your dreams”.

36 year-old Nirupama Rajeev is an UD clerk in Revenue Department. Her husband Rajeev have strong aspirations to emigrate toIreland, but there was no chance for her to accompany him as many Irish companies turned down her job applications. There is nothing interesting about her life as she leads a life which is determined by her usual daily activities, but she craves for a change.

One dramatic day, she has been summoned to theIG’s office and she learns thatThe President of Indiawould like to have a conversation with her. Unfortunately, the meeting went disastrous and herself in the center ofFacebookjokes and before long, she watches haplessly as her husband and daughter fly away to Ireland.

One of her old classmate who is the marketing head of a multinational company consoled and inspired her to look beyond the grey filled life. Nirupama finds herself face to face with almost every situation that an averageIndianwoman of her age goes through – from the dread of fast approaching the formidable age of forty, her inability to rise up to her daughter’s expectations and the sheer discomfiture at her husband being mistaken for her younger brother.

The movie focuses on the society’s obsession with the age and how individual’s ability is overlooked by the fact how old he or she is. (credits: Wikipedia)

The movie tells the story of a woman who is struggling to rise up to the expectations of her daughter as well as her husband. Even though she was one of the inspiration for all women during her college days, she has to settle her life within the boundaries set by her family. From the inspiration of her college friends, she set out on a journey to chase her dream and make it big at the end.

What Entrepreneurs can learn from this movie?

Entrepreneurship is full of failures. Shoot for the stars. Learn from your failures and move on. Youve got to always keep yourrealgoals in mind.

Focus on your goal. Once you have the passion, you will learn how to overcome the fear of failures. Never stop trying hard.

Even at your bad times, focus on your goals and you will find the way to come out of your troubles than going behind the troubles. Setting objectives will help you in the long run.
