India’s largest online marketplace Flipkart rolled out a new feature Ping, a chat feature that allows the users to chat with their friends and share product images even while shopping.

Users can share images, wishlists, shopping carts and chat with their phone book friends. Flipkart Ping is currently invite only & will be rolled out to select users. You can get an invite from friends who have access to it. The new chat service will allow buyers to share their buys or product wishes with their phonebook contacts and create groups just like in WhatsApp.

Last month, Snapdeal also launched a new app called Shopo which allows buyers and sellers to interact with each other via an in-built chat app.

Flipkart Ping

41% of online shopping comes from mobile with India leading the pack followed by China. This is an interesting feature which will help both users as well as Flipkart. Users can have more social shopping while for Flipkart the feature will enable them for more user engagement. Earlier similar concept was introduced by Quikr (Quikr Nxt) as well for their in-app chat.

Flipkart has more than 45 million registered users and has highest engagement rate of 59 minutes.
