The microblogging platform Twitter has introduced a new feature today. How many of you ardent Twitter users noticed the change that they brought to the UI? Instead of the Favorite icon, Twitter introduced Hearts!

Twitter haschanged their star icon for favorites to a heart and they will be called aslikes. We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be yourfavorite, Twitter said ontheir blog.

Twitter further said that the heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. Over the period Twitter conducted beta tests with the users and they found that people loved the heart more than the star-shaped favorite.

Twitter earlier released hearts on Periscope, and expected to make them the common language of their global community.

Starting today, youll see hearts on Twitter for iOS and Android,, TweetDeck, Twitter for Windows 10, and on Tweets across the Internet, as well as on the Vine Android app and website. Youll see them soon on Vine for iOS and Twitter for Mac. Tap the heart and see what happens!

Twitterati had mixed response for this new update. Some twitter users were happy to see the existing star replaced by more emotional heart but majority were missing their favorite star icon. Most of them feels that this is more like Facebook like button!

I believe this update is more similar to instagram like button. Instagram uses a heart to like the images posted by users. Is Twitter going the Facebook way?
