Airbnb to offer free accommodation to 20, 000 refugees from Afghanistan around the world

In a series of Tweets, Brian Chesky, Director of Airbnb told the world about his plan to help refugees from Afghanistan. The company will offer free temporary stays to 20,000 Afghan refugees to help them settle around the world.

In a message via Twitter, Brian Chesky explained the plan, “Starting today, Airbnb will begin housing 20,000 Afghan refugees globally for free. While we will be paying for these stays, we could not do this without the generosity of our Hosts. The displacement and resettlement of Afghan refugees in the US and elsewhere are one of the biggest humanitarian crises of our time. We feel a responsibility to step up. I hope this inspires other business leaders to do the same. There’s no time to waste.”

To make this happen, Airbnb is working closely with Airbnb.org, NGOs, and partners organizations on the ground to support the most pressing needs.

The cost of accommodation will be funded through contributions and from donors to the Airbnb.org Refugee Fund.

Chesky also urged others to follow the same. He said, “I hope this inspires other business leaders to do the same. There’s no time to waste.”

Airbnb Afghanistan Refugee Crisis

“This is a moment of urgency like no other. Right now tens of thousands are fleeing a life-threatening crisis in Afghanistan. Inspired by years of generosity by Hosts, Airbnb.org is partnering with resettlement agencies to fund temporary stays for 20,000 Afghan refugees. Hosts can help even more people by offering short-term stays for free or at a discounted rate. Our nonprofit partners will assist every refugee guest so that when their emergency stay is over, they’ll have next steps in place.”, read a statement from the Airbnb website.
